UK Autumn Statement to review life sciences regulation
Among the measures unveiled in the UK government’s Autumn Statement, published on 17 November 2022, Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt said that there will be regulatory reform to encourage economic growth in key industries, including the life sciences. Retained EU law will be reviewed over the next year to identify changes that can be made to accelerate development.
The statement adds, “The government will also task the Government Chief Scientific Adviser and National Technology Officer (Sir Patrick Vallance) to lead work to consider how the UK can better regulate emerging technologies, enabling their rapid and safe introduction.”
