Breakfast Briefing Takeaways: How will Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Impact the Pharma Regulatory and Medical Affairs Space? 30 Apr 2024

PMC’s latest virtual breakfast briefing was held on Wednesday, 24th April 2024.  PharmaMedic’s Managing Director, Dr Malcolm Barratt-Johnson was joined by guest speaker Dr Christine Grew, Director of Regulatory Affairs at Canopy Life Sciences to discuss machine learning and artificial intelligence, and a discussion on how this technology may impact our day-to-day roles.

Dr Malcolm Barratt-Johnson opened proceedings with a poll, asking the audience if they are using AI enabled software in a work setting.  The poll showed the ChatGPT was much greater used that Microsoft Copilot, with 43% and 20% respectively.  40% of the audience had not as yet used AI enabled software in a work setting, and 20% had used other AI enabled software.

Our guest speaker, Dr Christine Grew presented on “Is AI Revolutionising the Drug Development Paradigm?” after her disclaimer to say that she was not an artificial intelligence expert and this was a review of the landscape.

Malcolm presented on “What did AI ever do for Us?  Hype or Reality?” Before Malcolm’s presentation, another poll asked the audience what were the main challenges seen in integrating AI into daily tasks.  With 42% of the audience voting for both Lack of Workplace Knowledge and /or Training and Quality of Data in the AI systems.   Other challenges were Resistance to Change, Data Privacy Concerns and Technical Limitations.
