Dr Malcolm Barratt-Johnson


Malcolm is the Managing Director of PharmaMedic and its Senior Partner and has over 18 years experience as a UK / European based Consultant Pharmaceutical Physician to Industry, specialising in Medical Affairs, Product Development and Regulatory Strategy.

He acts as a Clinical Specialist to the European Commission’s Biomedical Research Programme (Horizon 2020), lectures in both Europe and the United States on medicinal development and teaches on the Pharmaceutical Medicine and Regulatory MSc Courses of two Universities, Surrey and Copenhagen.

Trained in General Medicine and Anaesthesiology, he joined the then Medicines Control Agency (now MHRA), the UK Medicines Regulatory Agency, as a Medical Assessor in the late ’90’s.

Lead Medical Assessor to the MHRA’s Clinical Trials Unit on its formation in 2005, he left full-time employment with the Agency in February 2007 and was subsequently appointed by the MHRA as an Independent Consultant.

Malcolm now works extensively in senior UK and Global consultancy positions with a number of Companies including AstraZeneca, Eisai, Roche, Novartis, Schering-Plough / MSD and GSK in addition to having advisory development roles in the biotech and generic pharma sectors. In 2012 he was appointed President to the Section of Pharmaceutical Medicine and Research at the Royal Society of Medicine, London and in 2014 a Fellow to The Royal Society of Biology.

In 2018 he joined the Executive Leadership Team of the European Medical Affairs Professionals Society (MAPS).
